On Friday, 8/9/13, I went to the Howard County Fair. Maryland was a nice change of scenery from D.C. and I was pleasantly surprised by what the fair had to offer.
It was my first time seeing livestock up close.
On Sunday, 8/4/13, I watched the Citi Open 2013 finals. I went with fellow friend Jina and it was our first time watching live professional tennis (with the exception of last week).
We first watched the men’s doubles final. Front row seats, are you kidding me?
I’ve been a hermit for the past two weeks – been going through job recruitment and have been awake until 1-5 am every morning, including work days. Therefore, not much energy (and activity) to update.
Yesterday, I took a break for half of the day and volunteered at two local efforts. From 9-12pm, I helped prepare salads for homeless people at D.C. Central Kitchen. I met many interesting people from different sectors of life: an army Captain getting his masters degree from George Washington University, a woman who worked in politics for 26 years, and a woman who was born in North Carolina and moved to DC to live and work. Independence Day in Washington D.C. was a splendid day indeed. I’m four days overdue on posting this and it’s midnight, so I’ll let pictures do more of the talking than my usual walls of text.
Yesterday, the Berkeley folks and I went to the home of our program’s founder, Cal in the Capital. He created the program over forty years ago to help Cal students work in DC over the summer without worrying about housing – it enabled them to become more involved in government and politics while retaining a strong network.

My sister created a photo caption blog showcasing our family vacations to national parks.. My parents love traveling and has taken the family to every national park on the western half of the US.
