Taiwan: National Palace Museum

On 12/24/13, A friend and I went to the National Palace Museum in Shilin 士林區. The museum has almost 700,000 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts up to 8,000 years old. It’s one of the largest museums in the world. Wikipedia lol.

No photos allowed inside, but the place was three stories tall. I was particularly drawn to the calligraphy and the long horizontal art pieces.

Arguably the most famous piece of art in the museum is The Jadeite Cabbage. I looked at it for about a minute.

I think my parents, and perhaps Rachel, would appreciate this museum more than I did. We were within the museum for an aggregate of just over one hour.

I love learning about history, but I’ve found the story behind artwork to always almost be more interesting than the artwork itself.
