Dream retention (#32): I woke up the entire family.

The Dream

A coyote was chasing me around my middle school track and field, at Parks Junior High.

It was fearless. I was scared. It circled around a friend and I, waiting for the opportunity to lunge in and attack.

When the coyote went to my 4 o’ clock to try to hit me at my blind spot, I performed a spinning heel kick with my right leg. Exactly the one that Terry Etim used to knock out Edson Barboza, one of the MMA knockouts of the year for 2013.

Meanwhile, in real life…

My right foot really hurt. I was sleeping on my stomach, and had kicked the wall. I was still in deep sleep, could feel the numbness and pain, but was not able to wake myself up fully to massage the heel. This was also my tendinitis foot, and I worried (while sleeping) that I re-injured my foot.

The next morning, I woke up and said good morning to my family. The first thing my dad said was, “Are you okay? What happened last night?” I was puzzled. He asked me about the bang, and I remembered this incident.

This incident occurred at about 5:40am. I had kicked the wall so hard that a painting on the other side of the wall (on the living room side) fallen off. It awoke the entire household.

My mom had coincidentally woke up to use the restroom. What timing: she was right outside my room when this happened, and it made her jump. My dad came out to check what had happened.

He told me they had a discussion this morning and considered the possible scenarios:

  • Andy was mad at something and punched the wall.
  • Something outside had hit the house.
  • Andy was trying to kill a mosquito.

Alas, it was just a stupid coyote nightmare.

A friend of mine was bitten by a coyote last week while stargazing at a park. She told me that the coyote was fearless and was preying on her; she had to go to the hospital from the bites. This must have slipped into my subconscious.
