David: met.

“I wonder how many people I’ve looked at all my life and never seen.”

On Wednesday, November 21st, I met a guy named David on the bus ride home from Oakland to Westminster. He sat across from me with his girlfriend. I had left my earphones at my apartment and was music-less, so I had asked if he had earphones to spare. He gladly let me use it for the majority of the busride.

Later on, he asked me how much time remained until the bus reached the LA Chinatown stop. After I gave him an estimate, I introduced himself and we started a nice conversation. David and his girlfriend are tourists from Armenia. They had been in the US for 15 days and were going back to Europe in five more days. They had traveled to NY and San Francisco and were ending their stay in the US in the LA region. Paramount Pictures and Hollywood were amongst two places they were visiting, and I recommended them check out Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

David has been in the US before, but it was his girlfriend’s first time. He recently turned 31, and he and his girlfriend have been together for a little over a year. The two are very much in love, and it’s clear in their affection towards one another. I wish I had asked for permission to take a photo of the two – they looked lovely.

David has been met, but I still wonder… how many people have I looked at all my life and never seen?
