Dia de los Muertos

Short, informal post tonight, folks. I’m actually quite tired, for it’s been a long day.

Day of the Dead. A holiday celebrated in Mexico. My school held a large event today for a few schools and organizations around Orange County. For the past couple of weeks, my Chicano Ethnic Studies class has been planning Ofrendas (Shrines) to represent a person(s) for the event.

This was the final product of our Ofrenda. Here’s another snapshot without the flash.

I learned a lot today. As many of you already know, I am infatuated with learning about people. Tonight’s event brought the entire community together, especially in regards to my classmates. I’ve become closer with many of them, and we each shared some stories about ourselves. The food and dancing also helped.

Moreover, this entire event helped me learned a lot about my grandfather. I’ve never met him in my life, for he passed away before I was born. My father told me a summary of his life, and he was a great man.
